Clint Elliott raising the bar.

Beachcombing for Fossilized Whale Bones in Santa Barbara County

Two attached fossilized whale vertebrae with a quarter for scale.

A top view of the two vertebrae showing the sliver of lighter colored stone, which used to be cartilage, separating the two fossilized bones.

A fragment of bone with penny for scale.

A close up showing the chambered, crystalized pattern characteristic of fossilized bone.

A fossilized wad of bone that looks to be a smaller vertebrae when examined closely.
