Bald Eagle, Manzana Creek, San Rafael Wilderness

A friend captured this snapshot while sitting in camp creekside waiting for me to show up.

We had left town at different times, arrived at the trailhead apart, and met up later in the afternoon.

I arrived just in time to miss out.

An unfortunate bit of timing.

I have never seen a bald eagle in these parts.

I kept eyes peeled during the remainder of our stay, but, alas, it was not to be.

I did not spy yellow talon nor white feather of the great raptor anywhere near or far.

One day, maybe.

So glad to hear about this bald eagle. We saw an immature bald eagle in northern San Diego County right near the interstate 5 freeway and the San Elijo Lagoon. They’re coming back.
